MSC Cruise Terminal H, Barcelona
MSC Cruises’ Terminal H opened at the Port of Barcelona’s Moll Adossat in early 2025 — a 12,500 m² facility designed by Bofill Taller de Arquitectura to handle around 190 cruise calls a year. The building has achieved LEED Gold certification, recognising its energy efficiency and environmental performance.
The terminal is a unique structure: a floating building, located on the sea and constantly exposed to movement, vibration, humidity and saline air. It also needs to handle hundreds of thousands of passengers a year at peak season.
The flooring brief was clear — a continuous, highly resistant surface, no risk of cracks or breaks, holding its appearance under conditions most floors would never see.
A custom terrazzo in SIBEXTREME AG STYLE runs across the main floors, with a coverage of almost five thousand square metres — deep blue glass aggregates in a neutral mineral base, finished joint-free across the full sweep of the space. Thickness was optimised to absorb the structural movement of the floating building without cracking, working with the product’s no-shrinkage formulation to keep the surface continuous.
The staircases carry the design through in SIBDEKODUR, with custom precast treads and risers matching the floor’s palette and aggregate signature.
Both products were specified to support the terminal’s environmental targets.
They are 100% mineral, VOC and APEO-free, and EC1Plus EMICODE® certified for ultra-low emissions. SIBEXTREME AG STYLE carries a published Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), giving full lifecycle transparency. Together this contributes towards satisfying the Low-emitting Materials Credit under LEED.
Durability is a critical part of the sustainability story too: High compressive strength, high abrasion resistance and the no-shrinkage formulation give the floor decades of service in a high-traffic, marine-exposed environment. Floors that don’t need replacing keep embodied carbon out of the cycle.
