Designed by the globally acclaimed Foster + Partners, this terminal is not just a hub for travel but a bold statement of sustainability, innovation, and architectural excellence.
A New Standard in Eco-Friendly Design
One of the most ambitious goals of Terminal 2 is to become the world’s first passenger terminal to achieve LEED Gold certification. This vision is realised through a combination of thermal-efficient concrete and extensive roof-mounted solar panels, setting a new benchmark for sustainable aviation infrastructure. The terminal’s design prioritises energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, ensuring it leads the way in eco-friendly travel.
Key Features of Terminal 2
1. Unmatched Capacity and Efficiency
Terminal 2 is designed to handle 25 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing the airport’s capacity. The departure hall features 128 check-in counters for economy class, 60 for business class, and 32 self-service kiosks, ensuring a smooth and efficient check-in process. The advanced baggage handling system can process an impressive 6,470 bags per hour, streamlining operations and reducing wait times.
2. Architectural Brilliance by Foster + Partners
The terminal’s design is a masterpiece of modern architecture. The central dome rises 45 metres from the ground floor, creating a spacious and light-filled environment. 8,000 skylights allow natural sunlight to illuminate the terminal, enhancing the passenger experience while contributing to its sustainability goals.
3. Passenger-Centric Amenities
Beyond its functional design, Terminal 2 offers a range of amenities to elevate the travel experience. Passengers can enjoy restaurants, waiting lounges, and a duty-free shopping area. The baggage claim area features a stunning waterfall, which not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also helps reduce noise from aircraft movements.
4. Advanced Baggage Handling
The baggage claim area is equipped with 12 carousels, connected to the latest inspection and scanning devices, ensuring a secure and efficient process for arriving passengers.
5. Sustainable Parking Solutions
The multi-level car park accommodates over 5,000 vehicles, including dedicated spaces for electric vehicles. The structure will have more than 200,000 plants, irrigated using treated rainwater, making it one of the most environmentally friendly parking facilities in the region.
6. World-Class Aircraft Accommodation
Terminal 2 boasts 30 gates, capable of serving up to 51 aircraft simultaneously. It is designed to accommodate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft, reflecting its readiness to meet future aviation demands.
