Depending on the grain size of the aggregate spread and the way the surface is treated or ground, it is possible to create any surface texture from smooth to very rough. On a pool deck for example, you would use small aggregates that make it comfortable to walk on with bare feet. In contrast, on stairs, walkways and cycle paths you would use something a little rougher to give grip in all weathers.
